RESPONSIBLE HOME-SHARING
We support common-sense regulations that protect our communities from bad actors who exploit rental markets. We are not the bad actors– we are your neighbors, family members, and anchors of our communities. We use responsible home-sharing to supplement our income and help make ends meet. At the same time, we support our communities by offering short-term accommodations to neighbors in transition and their visiting loved ones.
Home-sharing is not new and has long been a bedrock of thriving communities, especially in the outer boroughs. Homeownership continues to be one of the most reliable pathways out of poverty and into financial stability for working families. For generations, lower- and middle-income New Yorkers had no other choice than to rely on home-sharing to buy and afford their homes. Now, we use it to survive the current homeowner affordability crisis at a time when taxes, insurance, and home repair costs are higher than ever.
Responsible home-sharing…
provides housing security and financial stability for our families now and in the future
protects multi-generational living for families and helps them stay in their community
allows senior New Yorkers to “age in place”
creates micro-economies in outer-borough neighborhoods, bringing new revenue streams to local businesses and community members
allows more of us to pursue the American dream
